Σειρά σύντομων ταινιών φτιαγμένων με φωτογραφίες από το μετρό της Νέας Υόρκης. Μια κινηματογραφική απόπειρα κατανόησης της μετατροπής της στατικής εικόνας σε κινούμενη και του τρόπου λειτουργίας των πρώιμων μηχανισμών κινηματογραφικής προβολής. Το τελευταίο πρελούδιο (Αναλύζα) κλείνει τους πειραματισμούς αυτούς με ένα μονοπλάνο στο τέλος της γραμμής, στο Κόνεϋ Άιλαντ.

 

A series of short films made from photos of the New York subway. These films invite us understand the transformation of the static image into a moving one and how the early cameras worked. Prelude 10 or "Analysis" is the culmination of this series of visual experiments with static and moving images. It is also inspired by the musical piece “Analysis” of Lena Platonos. The prelude ends with a long take of a sequence of photos from the end of Stillwell Avenue in Coney Island, New York.

Θραύσματα – επεξεργασμένα, επιβραδυμένα, διπλοτυπωμένα και επαναλαμβανόμενα – ελληνικών ταινιών της δεκαετίας του ’50 και του ’60, συνοδευόμενα από θραύσματα ποιημάτων και το πιάνο του Μάνου Χατζιδάκι. Ένα ταξίδι στο κέντρο της σύγχρονης Αθήνας.

 

Fragments – reworked, slowed down, put in loops – of Greek popular movies of the 50s and 60s, accompanied by poetry and Manos Hadjidakis’ piano. A found-footage audiovisual collage journeys into modern Greece and central Athens.

Η καθημερινότητα των μεταναστών στον αυτοσχέδιο καταυλισμό της Ειδομένης. Άνθρωποι που περιμένουν στις ουρές για φαγητό, τσάι, νερό, ιατρική περίθαλψη. Άνθρωποι που περιμένουν να διαβούν τα σύνορα. Μία μέρα, η Ευρώπη κλείνει τα σύνορά της οριστικά. Οι “κάτοικοι” της Ειδομένης, με τη σειρά τους, καταλαμβάνουν τις γραμμές των εμπορικών τρένων που εξακολουθούν να διασχίζουν τα σύνορα. Εικόνες του σήμερα που διαπερνούν την Ιστορία, αναμοχλεύουν το παρελθόν και θέτουν ερωτήματα για το μέλλον.

 

The film explores the daily life of migrants in the camp of Idomeni, in Greece. People are waiting in queues for food, tea and doctors; waiting to cross the border. One day, Europe closes the West Balkan Route for them once and for all. The "residents" of Idomeni decide, in their turn, to occupy the train tracks, blocking the trains that carry goods across the border. Images of the present penetrate History, digging into the past and raising questions for the future.

Η Μαρία γεννήθηκε το 1982 στη Βόρεια Ελλάδα, όμως τελικά την κέρδισε το Παρίσι, όπου βρέθηκε πρώτη φορά για μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές το 2006. Στη Γαλλία, σπούδασε φιλμική θεωρία κι πραγματοποίησε έρευνα στο πλαίσιο του διδακτορικού της, με θέμα τον ρυθμό στον κινηματογράφο. Παράλληλα, από το 2008 μυήθηκε στην πρακτική του κινηματογράφου χάρη σε άλλους κινηματογραφιστές-μέλη αυτοδιαχειριζόμενων εργαστηρίων φιλμ, όπως είναι οι φιλμικές ομάδες L'Etna και L'Abominable. Υπήρξε ενεργό μέλος των δύο συλλογικοτήτων για πάνω από δέκα χρόνια και γύρισε διάφορες ταινίες, έχοντας σαν βασικό υλικό το φιλμ των 16 χιλιοστών.

Maria was born in Northern Greece in 1982, but eventually moved to Paris, where she initially went for postgraduate studies in 2006. In France, she studied film theory and conducted her doctoral research on the rhythm of cinema. In 2008 she was introduced to film practices, by becoming part of the French filmic groups L'Etna and L'Abominable, which are solely managed by filmmakers. Being an active member for over ten years she has produced numerous films, with the main material being the 16mm film. (Curated by Nina Veligradi)
