Γεννημένος στο Τρεντ στην Ιταλία το 1982, ο Andrea Pallaoro αποφοίτησε με μεταπτυχιακό στη Σκηνοθεσία από το Ινστιτούτο Τεχνών της Καλιφόρνια ενώ έλαβε το πρώτο του πτυχίο από το Πανεπιστήμιο Hampshire. Η πρώτη του ταινία μεγάλου μήκους, το Medeas, έκανε πρεμιέρα στο 70ο Φεστιβάλ Βενετίας, ενώ Η δεύτερη ταινία του, το Hannah, με πρωταγωνίστρια την Σάρλοτ Ράμπλινγκ, έκανε παγκόσμια πρεμιέρα στο διαγωνιστικό τμήμα του 74ου Φεστιβάλ Βενετίας, το οποίο απένειμε στην Ράμπλινγκ το βραβείο Coppa Volpi Καλύτερης Ηθοποιού.
Born in Trento, Italy in 1982, Andrea Pallaoro holds an MFA in Film Directing from the California Institute of the Arts and a BA from Hampshire College. His first feature film, Medeas, premiered at the 70th Venice Film Festival, while Hannah, Pallaoro’s second feature film, starring Charlotte Rampling, premiered in the Official Competition of the 74th Venice Film Festival where Ms. Rampling won the Coppa Volpi for best actress.

Το Monica είναι το προσωπικό πορτραίτο μίας γυναίκας που επιστρέφει σπίτι μετά από πολύχρονη απουσία και καλείται να αντιμετωπίσει τα τραύματα του παρελθόντος. Καθώς επανασυνδέεται με τη μητέρα της και την υπόλοιπη οικογένεια της για πρώτη φορά μετά την εφηβεία της, η Μόνικα ξεκινά ένα ταξίδι συμφιλίωσης και αποδοχής. Η ταινία εμβαθύνει στα έγκατα του εσωτερικού κόσμου και της ψυχολογίας της πρωταγωνίστριας, στον πόνο και τις φοβίες της, τις ανάγκες και τους πόθους της, διερευνώντας τα πανανθρώπινα ζητήματα της εγκατάλειψης και της συγχώρεσης.
Synopsis
Monica is an intimate portrait of a woman who returns home after a long absence to confront the wounds of her past. Reconnecting with her mother and the rest of her family for the first time since leaving as a teenager, Monica embarks on a path of healing and acceptance. The film delves into Monica’s internal world and state of mind, her pain and fears, her needs and desires, to explore the universal themes of abandonment and forgiveness.
