(1963, Βραζιλία) σπούδασε δημοσιογραφία με ειδίκευση στην τηλεόραση. Το 1991, χάρη σε υποτροφία του Βρετανικού Συμβουλίου, αποφοίτησε από τη Σχολή Κινηματογράφου του Πανεπιστημίου του Μπρίστολ. Η πρώτη του μεγάλου μήκους ταινία Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures (2005) προβλήθηκε στις Κάννες στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος Un Certain Regard. Οι ταινίες του Gomes έχουν ταξιδέψει σε πολλές διεθνείς οθόνες, μεταξύ των οποίων η Βενετία και το Βερολίνο.
Marcelo Gomes (1963, Brazil) studied journalism, specialising in TV. In 1991, thanks to a scholarship from the British Council, he graduated from the Film School at Bristol University. His first feature film Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures (2005) screened in Cannes as part of the Un Certain Regard programme. Gomes' films have travelled to many international screens among which are Venice and Berlin.

Σύνοψη
Στο τέλος της δεκαετίας του 1940, ο Λίβανος ολισθαίνει προς μια καταστροφική σύγκρουση. Τα καθολικά αδέλφια Emilie και Emir αποφασίζουν να φύγουν για τη Βραζιλία. Στο πλοίο για τη νέα τους πατρίδα, η Emilie ερωτεύεται τον Omar, έναν μουσουλμάνο έμπορο. Για τον εξοργισμένο και ζηλιάρη Emir, η σχέση αυτή είναι ανυπόφορη. Καθώς η ιστορία εκτυλίσσεται με φόντο το μαγευτικό τροπικό δάσος, οι πράξεις του Emir και η επιλογή που κάνει στη συνέχεια η Emilie οδηγούν σε καταστροφικές συνέπειες.
Synopsis
At the end of the 1940s, Lebanon is sliding towards a devastating conflict. Catholic siblings Emilie and Emir decide to leave for Brazil. Aboard the ship to their new home, Emilie falls in love with Omar, a Muslim merchant. For an enraged and jealous Emir, the relationship is intolerable. As the story unfolds against the backdrop of the majestic rainforest, Emir’s actions and the choice that Emilie subsequently makes lead to disastrous consequences.
