Synopsis

Henrique and Beatriz got married on her twenty-first birthday. Henrique, a naval officer, would spend long periods at sea. On land, Beatriz, who has learned everything in life through her love for plants, makes sure that the family’s seed is growing by taking care of their six children. Jacinto (Hyacinth), their oldest son and the directress’ father, transforms into a bird in his dreams. In a story as old as time, death intrudes like an unexpected guest. A heartfelt tale of metamorphosis that delves into loss and grief, flying away and growing roots at the same time.

Ο Ενρίκε και η Μπεατρίς παντρεύτηκαν ανήμερα των εικοστών πρώτων γενεθλίων της. Ο Ενρίκε, αξιωματικός του ναυτικού, περνά μεγάλο μέρος της ζωής του στη θάλασσα. Πίσω στην ξηρά, η Μπεατρίς, που έχει μάθει τα πάντα για τη ζωή μέσα από την αγάπη της για τα φυτά, φροντίζει τα έξι παιδιά της οικογένειας. Ο Ζασίντου (Υάκινθος), ο μεγαλύτερος γιος και συγχρόνως πατέρας της σκηνοθέτιδος, βλέπει στα όνειρά του ότι είναι πουλί. Σε μια ιστορία παλιά όσο κι ο άνθρωπος, ο θάνατος εισβάλλει σαν απρόσκλητος επισκέπτης. Primeira Idade

Catarina Vasconcelos (1986, Λισαβώνα) μετά την αποφοίτησή της από την Ακαδημία Καλών Τεχνών της Λισαβόνας, μετακόμισε στο Λονδίνο όπου έκανε το μεταπτυχιακό της στο Royal College of Art. Η πρώτη της μικρού μήκους ταινία «Μεταφορά ή Θλίψη μέσα προς τα έξω», ήταν η πρώτη της ταινία. Το «Μεταφορά» έκανε πρεμιέρα στο Cinéma du Réel το 2014 όπου του απονεμήθηκε το βραβείο Καλύτερης Διεθνούς Ταινίας Μικρού Μήκους. Η ταινία συμμετείχε σε διάφορα φεστιβάλ όπως το RIDM - Montreal International Documentary Festival, DokLeipzig, Moscow International Film Festival και Doclisboa. Η πρώτη της μεγάλου μήκους ταινία, «Η Μεταμόρφωση των Πουλιών» έκανε πρεμιέρα στο τμήμα Encounters της Berlinale το 2020.

Catarina Vasconcelos (1986, Lisbon) after graduating from Lisbon’s Fine Arts Academy, she moved to London where she pursued a MA at the Royal College of Art. Her final project, the short film “Metáfora ou a Tristeza Virada do Avesso” (Metaphor or Sadness inside out), was her first film. “Metáfora” premiered at Cinéma du Réel in 2014 where it was awarded the prize for the Best International Short Film. The film was in various festivals such as RIDM - Montreal International Documentary Festival (Best international medium length award), DokLeipzig, Moscow International Film Festival and Doclisboa. Her first feature film, “A Metamorfose dos Pássaros” (The Metamorphosis of Birds”) has its premiere at the Encounters section at the Berlinale 2020.
