“Fern Silva is a constant flaneur, traveling with his 16mm camera around the world. From the Oregon High Desert to the Hawaian Volcano and from the battlefield in Ukraine to the basketball field of Athens. Through his work one feels the harmony and the spirituality of Earth with constant openminded humanity revealing our world in crisis,” says KINO Athens director Nina Veligradi. “Rock Bottom Riser, the debut feature film of Fern Silva, was the first film ever screened at KINO Athens representing the strong political and aesthetical statement of our mission”.

Fern Silva (b. 1982, USA/Portugal) is an artist who primarily works in 16mm. His films consider methods of narrative, ethnographic, and documentary filmmaking as the starting point for structural experimentation. He has created a body of film, video, and projection work that has been screened and performed at various festivals, galleries, museums and cinematheques. He studied art and cinema at the Massachusetts College of Art and the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts. He is Visiting Artist in Residence in the Film & Electronic Arts Department at Bard College.
