About the Screening

Considered by many as an excellent master of ceremonies and a true stage animal, João Pedro Almendra is the unmistakable singer of bands such as Ku de Judas, Peste & Sida and PunkSinatra. As one of the founders of Censurados, he was also a lyricist and one of the most influential voices of the Portuguese Punk Rock scene. This documentary takes us on an intimate portrait of the musician, in the first person, on a spatial and temporal journey through the neighbourhood of Alvalade, Lisbon, where he had grown and lives. More than three decades ago, it all started there when he took his first steps in music with his neighbours. This is also a dive into the underground of Portuguese music, a narrative complemented by those who join him throughout his musical career, from the 1980s to the present. It includes interviews with friends, family, musicians and radio hosts who help us understand who Almendra is and his role in Portuguese music.
