MASTERCLASS WITH DOMINGA SOTOMAYOR

Time, Memory and the Sea: Crafting Intimacy in Cinema

As part of the programme dedicated to her work, Dominga Sotomayor will be present at KINO Athens to share insights into her filmmaking practice and artistic trajectory. In this masterclass, she will delve into her distinctive cinematic approach, marked by lyrical storytelling, observational realism, and a heightened sensitivity to atmosphere and detail. Sotomayor will reflect on how recurring themes such as memory, adolescence, and transformation inform the structure and emotional core of her narratives. Through a discussion of her creative process including her use of natural light, non-professional actors, and extended takes the session will offer a deeper understanding of how she crafts intimate portraits of individuals and communities in transition. This masterclass presents a rare opportunity to engage with a filmmaker whose work subtly challenges conventional narrative forms and foregrounds the emotional nuances of everyday life.
